iScaffold 2.0 preview

iScaffold 2.0 preview I'm a little bit lazy and I prefer the challenging parts of coding, not the boring, repetitive ones. I read somewhere that a great percentage of development time is spent on creating basic CRUD functionality. I had to find something to get rid of this, so I did a little research on which is the best tool for PHP to generate CRUD source code.

Since I was using CodeIgniter for a while, I searched the forums for CRUD solutions and I found this forum thread. After downloading the package, I instantly loved the idea, that you can generate CRUD code based on source code templates. Just a click and models, views, controllers are ready to use, customized for your database schema.

Although the 1.1 is really cool, I missed a lot of features, that I added later.

Here is a feature list, that you can do with 2.0:

  • Configurator GUI that allows you to setup your CURD application
    • Add a label to your DB field
    • Set a lot of form types
    • It handles table relations, both One:One and One:Many
    • Handles enum values
    • Timestamp to "Y-m-d" date conversion
    • Reorder the table fields
  • Automatic form validation based on DB schema
  • Automatic file upload method
  • Generates a minimalistic, clean, easy to use interface
  • All the field labels are stored in a language file
  • A lot of handy source code tags for easy customisation

Some screenshots of the 2.0 version:

Release date:
As soon as possible, hopefully before Xmas :) The project will get it's site, with documentation, tutorials, forum.

Other info:
I changed the project's codename to Hummingbird, I like the trend to give different bird names for different releases.
I also tired to keep the integrity of the design of 1.1

Thank you Salah, I'm working on it right now. Only some small tweaks left and some basic documentation, how to use the new features, concepts.

I'm traveling to my relatives today for a couple of days, but I think I can continue to work on it.
